I am absolutely thrilled to let you know about a the latest initiative we have at The Sydney – Composing The Future. As you know, The Sydney has a long, proud and successful history of promoting Australian works. Competitors are required to explore and choose Australian works to perform and ultimately delight audiences all over the world.
The chief aims of Composing The Future are continue and expand this tradition with more Australian repertoire for the solo piano and in time to publish a collection of Australian works, including what comes from this.
Sound exciting? Well, you can be involved and this is why I am writing to you now.
If you are a composer, we invite you to submit a work by December 2021 for consideration by the international jury. Not only may this work become the chosen work of this innaugural Composing The Future, but there will be a very considerable cash prize and be premiered by the winner of the 2021 Sydney International Online Piano Competition. Other entries will be up for prizes and performances too.

We have already received an very generous donation from an anonymous donor, but more is needed to get to our $25,000 goal. We can’t wait to see what Composing The Future generates in new music. Not only does it fill me with excitement, but imagine the pride that we as musicians, contributing donors or as listening music enthusiasts will feel when the first notes of that new winning work is played in 2022.
With thanks and very best wishes,
